The Character Design Challenge (CDChallenge) is an international community of artists who gather once a month to share their unique design of characters, based on a common theme. Artists of all skill levels and styles are welcome to participate and submit their work in our Facebook group, where everyone is invited to share the links to promote their blogs, online stores and Patreon pages along with their creations. Subjectively is a YouTube channel that features numerous design videos dealing with character design challenges and theory. The channel is comprised of five friends who comment on popular culture by creating their design takes on all sorts of series. There are one-off design videos, in addition to multi-episode series that explore different themes. In particular, their takes on Pokémon character designs can be extremely entertaining and inspiring.

ArtStation has a reputation as one of the biggest websites around for artists and a great many professional character designers have profiles there. The website is very much portfolio-forward, providing galleries for artists who might be looking for work, but that is part of why it is one of the best character design websites out there. One of the best ways to experience great character design is to go to where the character designers are. In that sense, CharacterHub is a go-to destination for innovative character design ranging from the work of beginners to professional designers. You never know what cool tweak to character design you may pick up from observing some of the characters in the trending feature. That is part of the reason I am a CharacterHub user, as I have an interest in character design websites myself.
Seeking Inspiration Beyond
You get the option to design both a male and female character before picking between the two, with the one unselected becoming your spouse. This allows you to easily create bold-looking avatars that tend to come across as scary and intimidating, which seems fitting for Bloodborne’s dark fantasy setting. Combine this with BDO’s gorgeous graphics and there’s a good chance you’ll come out the other end with an impressive-looking character that’s ready to take on any challenge. Things get even more detailed as we move onto the body, with options like limb proportions, face sculpting, and micro details regarding eye and nose shape. Although each race has a default limited selection of hair, skin, and eye colors, the game gives you the option to unlock the entire spectrum and get hyper-specific with your D&D roleplay. Currently, there’s no way to sculpt faces, though an assortment of male and female presets along with a large pool of hairstyles, makeup, and tattoos provide a good enough foundation.

You obviously shouldn’t try to pass the work of others as your own, but they are great for quick visualizations and concepts. Any design you develop on The Character Creator is free to use and is provided in the SVG format, meaning a vector output. You can even register for an account keep your characters on the site and edit them later.

Participating to the Character Design Challenge is very easy and doesn't require too much commitment. To let everyone find the time to join the challenge, we ask each artist to submit only a single artwork during a time period of 25 days. By doing so, we hope that any artist who likes this project, despite work or study obligations, will be able to participate without worrying about getting involved in something that requires too much time or commitment.
You could even create Todd Howard himself if you wanted, and just coast through space as Bethesda’s head honcho. For an RPG that’s all about player decisions and agency, it was incredibly important that Starfield be able to let you create a character that’s truly your own. The graphic novel comes with an original soundtrack written by Remo Baldi, with sound design by Carlo Missidenti, violin by Pietro David Caramia, and vocals by Margaret Figoni. From time to time, between the pages, you will be recommended the tracks that you can listen to so that you can immerse yourself even more deeply in the world of Kaya, while reading it. Kaya is a post-apocalyptic/sci-fi graphic novel written by Paola Barbato and Linda Cavallini, and drawn by Linda Cavallini, Emanuele Tenderini, and Lorenzo Lanfranconi. A self-contained volume of 96 pages in total, it tells the struggle for the survival of a little girl in an era in which the planet is now at its last, torn apart by a threat that has brought it close to its end.

The design reposted on Patreon must follow the rules of this page, just like a standard design submitted on our Facebook group. We obviously want you to promote your work in the group, and you can share as many links as you want (your blog, Facebook page, online store, portfolio, Patreon page, etc.) but make sure to share those links in the caption of your post. If you share a post directly from your Facebook page, your design will not be recorded and saved in the Photos folder of the group. Instead, it will soon get lost in the group feeds, due to the number of daily entries from other artists. Our team and the Special Guest Juror select the winning artwork from the photos folder, so please make sure we can find your artwork in there. A so-called ‘‘Perfect Entry’’, is an artwork submitted to the Character Design Challenge by an artist that has strategically avoided stretching any of the rules of the contest.
Theme of the Month: Traveling Shepherd!
There is a ludicrous number of options and sliders to fiddle around with, and you can basically spawn any character you can think of. It is easy to find and follow unique OC creators on the site and to learn through observation. However, you also benefit from the ability to create profiles and share your characters for valuable feedback. You can even network with other creators for trades, conversation, and even purchase commissions through the marketplace. Plus, you can easily organize the fanworks based on your designs once they start rolling in.

The artists of our community were invited to design their unique vision of a Space Pirate. Our forty-second Character Design Challenge started on the 7th of June 2018, the deadline was the 2nd of July 2018. The artists of our community were invited to design their unique vision of an African Tribesman.
You cannot post more than 1 single image in your post, so please don’t submit posts with multiple pictures in them. Don't forget that now you can also win the Challenge Rewards, the prizes for the Character Design Challenge! Simply repost your design as a Supporter on our Patreon page (or post it only there if you don't have or don't want to open a Facebook account) to access rewards and vote in the surveys to choose the new themes every month!
Yes, If you are not on Facebook or Instagram (and don’t want to open an account there), you can simply just post your design on our Patreon page and it will be automatically validated as an entry for the contest. If instead, you use all these platforms, you can submit your work in all of them (just make sure you submit the very same artwork for that challenge, and not different works). Infants and children can be considered sidekicks only when your main character is an adult. This is why you should always make sure to avoid portraying multiple characters confronting each other in a (so to speak) fighting game-like fashion. If it's unclear who is the main character of your design, your submission will not be approved.
The Challenge Rewards are exclusively available for the Supporters (or for the students and employees of our Advertisers and Partners) of the Character Design Challenge on our Patreon Page. Please check all the details below and visit the Membership section on our website to learn how to access all the Challenge Rewards. All the cases listed above can potentially lead to a permanent ban from the group, so please be extremely careful. Depending on the individual cases, you will be also potentially asked to formally apologise to us and to ALL the members of the community with a public post in the group.
You’ll find some fantastic guides in their videos, and some recent uploads suggest that these two busy professionals may be preparing even more videos soon. They also have a website with even more resources if you’re interested in their approach. For this project, it was easier to commit to my limitations and ideas mainly because of time constraints.
Like many other games, Dragon’s Dogma’s character creation system relies on a combination of sliders and pre-made assets. Phantasy Star Online 2 lets players fully customize their character’s face and body, and none of the sliders break the anime aesthetic or make characters look out of place, even when they radically change a character’s body shape. Cyberpunk 2077 may have stumbled right out of the gate, but the game’s only gotten better with its 2.0 update and the launch of the Phantom Liberty expansion.
The Challenge Rewards are the official prizes of the Character Design Challenge, exclusively available to our Patreon Supporters as a way to thank them for their invaluable help in keeping the project going. At the end of each challenge, the 3 most well designed artworks submitted by the Supporters of the Character Design Challenge on our Patreon page, will receive one of these amazing prizes delivered to their door or directly via email! The 3 artworks that will win the monthly rewarded will also be featured on our Facebook pages, along with the classic Winners of the Character Design Challenge. We also re-share the finest artworks submitted to our contest every day on all major social media platforms such as Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest.
